Derio, 12th of March – As part of the European project SECOVE (Sustainable Energy Centres of Vocational Excellence), Politeknika Txorierri has announced the launch of its Innovation Hub, a dynamic learning space designed to foster innovation, hands-on training, and collaboration between students, companies, and industry stakeholders in a controlled environment.
The IoT & Cybersecurity Hub, as it has been named, has the industrial focus of Energy Efficiency, Smart Industrial Manufacturing, and Smart Building.
The hub will integrate into the local educational and business ecosystem, providing students and professionals with access to an environment where they can experiment with advanced technologies, develop applied research projects, and engage in entrepreneurship initiatives. Additionally, it will serve as a meeting point for international competitions, facilitating knowledge exchange with other SECOVE hubs across Europe.
Politeknika Txorierri’s new Innovation Hub, operating under the SECOVE network, is a dynamic space where education meets real-world industrial challenges. With a strong focus on Energy Efficiency, Smart Industrial Manufacturing, and Smart Building. The hub will specialise in:
Digital transformation in advanced manufacturing, with a focus on data acquisition, management technologies, and industrial cybersecurity.
Implementation of smart digital infrastructures in buildings to improve energy efficiency and reduce waste.
Over the last five years, the centre has developed three specialised postgraduate programs in industrial digital transformation, namely Digital Transformation (Industrial IoT and Cybersecurity); Advanced Robotics (Collaborative and Autonomous Robots and Artificial Vision); and Smart Manufacturing . This new IoT-oriented Innovation Hub is the cornerstone for the hands-on training offered in these fields.
A Hub for Innovation, Learning, and Collaboration
The Innovation Hub at Politeknika Txorierri will offer key services and activities, including:
- Specialised Courses in IoT and industrial cybersecurity combining theory with practical lab sessions.
- Collaboration with local companies to offer internships and real-world projects that enhance student learning.
- Community events and workshops to promote awareness and knowledge exchange on digital transformation.
- Recognised certifications to validate training quality and boost employability.
- Cutting-Edge equipment including IoT devices, simulation tools, and cybersecurity technologies to ensure up-to-date training.
A Network of Innovation Hubs
Through this initiative, Politeknika Txorierri will strengthen the connection between the education sector and the business world, enhancing student employability and fostering industry innovation. GAIA has collaborated with the creation fo these Innovation Hubs.
This hub is part of a transnational network of Innovation Hubs promoted by SECOVE, with the support of the European Union, aimed at transforming vocational education and training (VET) in the field of sustainable energy.
Located in a region with strong demand for IT/OT technicians, the Hub will also provide strategic support and services to local companies and institutions, promoting innovation and sustainability.
SECOVE project
SECOVE (Sustainable Energy Centres of Vocational Excellence) is a European project that aims to establish a network of Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs) in the field of sustainable energy. It brings together vocational education and training (VET) providers, companies, research institutions, and public authorities from across Europe to jointly develop innovative training models, promote excellence in skills development, and foster collaboration between education and industry. Through its activities, SECOVE supports the green and digital transitions by equipping future professionals with the skills and knowledge needed in the sustainable energy sector, while also enhancing innovation capacity, employability, and regional development.
